Vale Bruce Campbell AM MBE

The Club has lost a Life Member with the passing this week of Bruce Campbell AM MBE

Our condolences are extended to Bruce’s wife Beth and family on their loss.

Born in Longreach in 1931, Bruce joined the Club in 1949 and gained his Bronze Medallion. Bruce went on to hold numerous positions within the Club and Branch

Bruce was elected to Life Membership of the Club in June 1959.

In 1986 he was awarded an MBE for recognition of service to voluntary organisations, the most notable as president of the Queensland Royal Life Saving Society 1971-86, and Australian deputy president 1982-87.

In 2004 he was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to the community, particularly people living in rural, regional and outback Australia, and was named ‘Lifesaver of the Century’ in 2005.

His funeral is to be held at 10.30am, Saturday 27 November, Pinnaroo Cemetery and Crematorium, Bridgeman Downs. The service will be live streamed and available for later viewing (for a limited time) via the K.M.Smith Funeral Directors website, https://kmsmith.com.au/live-streaming/
